The inspiration for this product came from a bump on the head...Literally.
I was riding my Buell to work one Friday morning in September, 2004. I was probably (ahem) travelling a bit faster than I should have been. As I heeled over into a sharp, right hand entrance ramp, I found a patch of oil directly in my path.
I found myself sitting on the ground with the bike about 20 feet away. I had low-sided to the right. Fortunately, I was not going very fast. Fortunately, no one could see my embarrassed face behind my full-face helmet. Fortunately, I was uninjured thanks to my armored riding gear.
I picked the bike up and began to inspect it. The right hand mirror was cracked, the right hand bar end on my Crossroads was scraped pretty badly, the right hand brake lever was slightly bent, the foot brake lever was beveled, and the lower right hand edge of my swing arm was scratched up near the axle.
All except for the swing arm damage was limited to inexpensive, relatively easy to replace items. This got me to thinking: What if the swing arm had a slider like my handle bars did?....so began DarkHorseMoto, LLC.
